He’s the author of The Norton Field Guides to Writing and the little seagull handbook, his scholarship and teaching have focused on the teaching of writing in college and secondary school.
Michal Brody (Ph.D, University of Texas) is a linguist. She was a founding faculty member of Universidad de Oriente in Yucatán, Mexico. Her scholarly work centers on language pedagogy and politics in the United States and Mexico. She recently led a writing workshop for personnel of the secretaría de las Mujeres in Mérida, Yucatán. This ebook began as an attempt to create a small handbook that would provide help with the specific kinds of writing college students are assigned to do, and to make it as user-friendly as possible. It’s been more successful than we had hoped, much to our surprise, it’s been adopted by many instructors who had been using much larger PDF handbooks. These teachers tell us they like it because it’s got “just enough detail,” it’s easy to use, and it costs less than half what their former ebooks cost.
Why Small Handbook?
From our own experience as teachers, we’ve seen how much students prefer smaller ebooks, and so, to paraphrase Elmore Leonard, we’ve tried to give the information college writers need and to leave out the details they skip.
